Captain’s Log: Beyond the Holodeck

Star Trek

I remember sitting down with my Dad when I was young and watching my first Star Trek episode. I have not missed a single one since. Yes I proudly call myself a Sci-fi Geek and more specifically a Trekkie. I’ve boldly followed the final frontier voyages of Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway and Archer.

When I started here 10 years ago, it was exciting for me to find out that Nomadic had a hand in building the Holodeck on Voyager. Unfortunately we never had any photos of this…until today!

Susan Cassano out of our New York office recently found photos of our Instand displays being used as the backdrop of the Holodeck. So if you are curious as to what was behind all of the fancy off-world virtual adventures, take a look at these.

This clearly shows that Nomadic’s products truly are versatile and can be used for any kind of environments, even ones in outer space! So if the producers of Star Trek Voyager could make Instand work for them, then you should be able to easily use our displays at your next trade show convention.

Be smart about your displays

by Marketing 4/25/2008 5:45:00 AM

I am sure you’ve heard at one time or another, this famous line, “Presentation is everything.” Well, if you haven’t, then it’s a good thing you’re reading this blog.

For exhibitors like you, there is a boulder (not grain) of truth in this marketing quote. That is why it pays to pay attention on how you present your new product or service in a tradeshow or any marketing event.

Statistics show that 93% of event or show attendees have net buying influence — that is, they recommend, specify or make final purchase decisions.

To increase your chances in harnessing this net buying influence is to make effective presentations that stop your target attendees in their tracks. The good news is that, there are many display solutions available to you. The only thing you need to do is find the smart ones that will help you generate new sales while minimizing storage, transportation, and installation costs.

So check out our latest 32-page four-color catalog featuring a sample of our smart and popular displays and accessories.

Nomadic’s Eye-Popping Possibilities

by Marketing 4/17/2008 11:26:00 AM
Instand Accessories

If someone asks me right now where Nomadic’s Instand pop up display stands as compared to other pop ups in the market, I would say “nowhere near any one of them.” Why? It’s simply because Nomadic’s pop up system is incomparable. It’s the only lightweight and over-engineered portable display system in the world destined to serve a higher purpose.

A higher purpose? Doesn’t that sound lofty? Not really. Let me explain how. Knowing the superior weight threshold that Nomadic’s pop up systems possess, we decided to maximize this feature by creating a brand new line of designer accessories for Instand. These accessories paved the way for exhibitors to rethink the usual graphic backwall exhibit that they bring to shows. Today, only Nomadic’s Instand pop up display system, be it a Classic (Concave or Convex) or a Plus, has the ability to reinvent itself on the show floor and project a dimensional appeal that was never seen before in a pop up.

Instand Accessories

So whether you have a 20-year old Instand Classic or a brand new Instand Plus display system, let Nomadic help you give it an Instand-taneous Makeover.

Visit our N.Vision page and picture all the possibilities that an Instand can offer you.

Lights, Camera, Action....Nomadic on Fox 5

by Marketing 4/9/2008 10:49:00 AM

Earlier this week Nomadic Display and American Idol were both featured on Washington DC Fox 5 as part of their mid-morning Idol segment.

This pop television phenomenon has been a client of ours since 2002. Idol chose our Nomadic Instand to use as a backdrop behind contestants and judges for their nationwide audition shows. Show producers chose our Instand product for its graphic impact, and easy setup and shipping.

Emmy-nominated TV journalist Gurvir Dhindsa of Fox 5 stopped by to interview Pat Goeke, President of Nomadic Display and Doug Turpin, Executive Director of Nomadic Display Capitol about our Idol connection.

Stop by our showroom anytime to see the Idol display. Bring your camera!

How a Rocky Spot Led Me to the Trade Show Business

by Marketing 4/3/2008 4:58:00 AM

Pic1_2After 20 years of running the operation and finance departments of a large, bureaucratic organization, people always ask how I got into the business of creating trade show exhibits. The answer is different than you might expect.

During my career in transportation, I’ve always had an eye out for a creative entrepreneurial venture. When I left my eight-to-six job, I spent two months turning the word “derelict” from a noun to a verb, and looking at creative opportunities to feed my family. One day, I was fishing on the bank of the St. Johns River here in Jacksonville, Florida. The spot was rocky and I could not use the traditional sand spikes to hold fishing poles. I spotted the square receiver hitch on the back of my SUV and thought about crafting a rod holder that would fit into it. In a nutshell, this led me to months of research and fabrication. I invented a versatile hitch device that holds a tabletop, barbeque grill, cargo deck, flag pole, umbrella, cutting boards, and much more (yes, including rod holders.) Patented in 2006, the TruckSpike is a “portable modular” tailgating toy.

Pic1_2The TruckSpike has been marketed to outdoor enthusiasts, primarily sports tailgaters. Accordingly, I found the best private parking space near our local stadium. After a couple years at the same spot, I found out that the business where I used to park was a display house and I eventually went to work for them. While this position was not financially rewarding, the creative aspect of helping companies create vibrant and visual displays fed my creative instincts, and the exhibit business made my blood flow. Like many of my fellow Nomadic distributors, I got hooked on the business!

Rather than buying that business, I decided to start from scratch and with my business partner, we started Bluewater Exhibit Group in 2007. We have been a part of the Nomadic family for nearly a year now, and could not be more pleased. Not only are Nomadic’s products living up to the reputation of being the best quality on the market, but we are also impressed with the way Nomadic is using its position in the marketplace to help us leverage ourselves into larger exhibits. And don’t try to convince me that there is a stronger, more customer-focused team that Nomadic Display. Together, we have a good foothold in the north Florida market and are building on our momentum.

So tailgating has become a smaller part of my life. But we still hold a number of great TruckSpike tailgate parties to entertain our display clients.
